Mexico All Inclusive: Riviera Maya, Cancun, or Cabo?

Mexico is the most booked all inclusive destination for American travelers, and the three main regions are not interchangeable.

Cancun

The hotel zone is a strip of beach with resorts on both sides, five to twenty minutes from the airport for the closest properties. Best for short trips, first timers, nightlife, and anyone who wants a hotel every hundred yards. The ocean can be rough on the east facing beaches.

Riviera Maya

South of the airport, from Puerto Morelos through Playa del Carmen down to Tulum. Quieter, greener, and home to the biggest family resorts and the best cenote and ruin day trips. Transfers run 30 minutes to nearly two hours depending on how far south you go. Seaweed can affect this coast in summer, and we'll be honest about your dates.

Los Cabos

Desert meets ocean at the tip of Baja, a different look entirely. Fantastic for adults, golf, and dramatic scenery. Important: many Cabo beaches are not swimmable due to currents, so if your family wants to swim in the ocean rather than the pool, we'll steer you to a resort on the Sea of Cortez side.

Who we send where

Families with little kids: Riviera Maya, north end, big pool complex. Couples wanting scenery and great restaurants: Cabo. Long weekend or first all inclusive: Cancun.

Best months

December through April is dry and reliable. May and June are hot but great value. September and October are hurricane season and the cheapest, and we always recommend travel insurance if you go then.

One planning note

Book airport transfers through your resort or through us. It's the single most common place travelers get hassled, and it's easy to avoid.
