Jamaica All Inclusive: Montego Bay, Negril, or Ocho Rios?

Jamaica is one of the easiest all inclusive trips to book and one of the easiest to get slightly wrong, because the three main resort areas feel nothing alike.

Montego Bay

Closest to the airport, usually 15 to 30 minutes. Best if you want to land and be in a swimsuit fast, or if you're traveling with kids who don't travel well. The beaches are good rather than spectacular, and the resort selection is the widest on the island.

Negril

About 90 minutes from Montego Bay, and worth every minute. Seven Mile Beach is the softest sand and the best sunsets in Jamaica. The vibe is barefoot and relaxed. Choose Negril if the beach itself is the point.

Ocho Rios

Roughly two hours from Montego Bay, or a short hop from Kingston. Green, lush, and closest to Dunn's River Falls, Blue Hole, and river tubing. Beaches are smaller and often man made, but the excursions are the best on the island.

How long is too long in a transfer?

With young kids, keep it under an hour if you can. With teens or adults, two hours is fine and the drive is beautiful. We always tell you the real transfer time before you book, not the marketing version.

When to go

Mid December through April is the driest and busiest. Late April through early June is our value sweet spot: warm, quiet, and noticeably cheaper. September and October are the wettest months and the deepest discounts.

What to book ahead

Airport transfers, one or two excursions, and any specialty restaurants your resort takes reservations for. Everything else can wait until you're in a hammock.
