How Much Does an All Inclusive Vacation Really Cost?

All inclusive pricing is confusing because the advertised nightly rate rarely resembles what you pay. Here's how it really breaks down.

Typical per person ranges, air included, for a week

  • Mexico and the Dominican Republic, mid tier: $1,400 to $2,200.
  • Jamaica and the Bahamas, mid tier: $1,700 to $2,600.
  • Turks and Caicos, Saint Lucia, and Aruba: $2,400 to $4,000.
  • Luxury and adults only brands anywhere: $3,500 and up.
  • Kids often travel at a steep discount or free at family resorts, which changes the math quickly for a family of four.

    What's genuinely included

Room, all meals, snacks, drinks including alcohol at most Caribbean and Mexico resorts, non motorized water sports, entertainment, and usually tips. At Sandals and Beaches, airport transfers are included too.

    What still costs money

Flights if you book separately, airport transfers at many resorts, spa, excursions, premium liquor at lower tiers, Wi-Fi upgrades, cabana rentals, and specialty restaurant fees at some properties. Budget $300 to $800 per person for a week to be comfortable.

Where the price actually comes from

Season first, destination second, resort tier third. The same room in Cancun can swing 60% between February and September. Moving your trip two weeks is usually a bigger saving than switching resorts.

The tier that gives the best value

In our experience it's the top of the mid tier: a well run four and a half star property with good food and a great beach, rather than the entry level room at a five star. We'll tell you which is which.
