The Best Time to Cruise the Mediterranean

The Mediterranean season runs roughly April through early November, and the month you choose changes the trip more than the ship does. Here's the honest version.

April and May

Cool, green, and blessedly quiet. Ports feel like they belong to the people who live in them. The sea is still chilly for swimming, and a few beach clubs haven't opened yet, but the ruins and the cities are at their best.

June

Our favorite all around month. Long days, warm water, and the crowds haven't peaked. Prices climb quickly through June, so this is one to book early.

July and August

Hot and very busy. Rome, Barcelona, and the Greek islands run in the 90s, and tender ports get crowded. If summer is your only window, choose a sailing with more sea days, book excursions that start early, and pick a ship with plenty of shade and pool space.

September and early October

The water is at its warmest all year and the crowds thin out after the first week of September. This is the sweet spot for couples and anyone who can travel outside school calendars.

Late October and November

Repositioning season. Fares drop sharply, some ports get windy, and a few tender stops can be missed. Wonderful value if you're flexible and mostly there for the cities.

What we'd tell a friend

For the best mix of weather and calm, sail in June or the second half of September. For value, look at late October. For families locked into July, we'll steer you toward a bigger ship and a shorter port day schedule.
