Adults Only or Family Resort: How to Choose

Two resorts on the same beach, same price, same included drinks, and completely different weeks. The difference is who else is there.

Adults only means more than no kids

It usually means quieter pools, later dinner service, more couples focused activities, and a calmer soundtrack. Rooms tend to be larger with fewer beds, and swim up suites are common. If you're celebrating an anniversary or finally taking a trip that's just yours, this is the one.

Family resorts earn their price differently

Water parks, kids clubs by age, splash zones, teen lounges, and rooms that genuinely sleep five. The value math changes fast when children stay free or at a deep discount, and having somewhere safe for kids to be for two hours is worth real money on a vacation.

What surprises people

Some family resorts have adults only sections with their own pool and restaurants, which is often the best of both. And some adults only properties are livelier than expected, with music by the pool all afternoon. The label tells you less than the property does.

Traveling as a mixed group

Grandparents, parents, and kids together is one of our favorite things to plan. Look for a large family resort with an adults only building, or two properties within a short drive. Everyone gets the week they wanted and you still have dinner together.

Questions worth asking before you book

How many pools, and is one of them quiet? Are restaurants reservation only? Is the beach swimmable? Is the kids club included and what are the hours? We answer all of that before you put down a deposit.
