GETAWAYS DESTINATION GUIDE

Bahamas Vacations

The closest clear water to the US, and one of the easiest warm weather trips you can take. Long weekend, first cruise, or a full family week, it works for all three. Here's how we plan it!

Where to go in The Bahamas

Nassau and Paradise Island

The easiest to reach and the most to do. Atlantis for families, quieter resorts nearby for couples, and short flights from most of the East Coast.

Exuma

Ridiculous water color, sandbars, and the swimming pigs. Smaller resorts and a slower pace, best for couples and repeat visitors.

Abaco and Eleuthera

Pastel harbor towns, pink sand beaches, and very little crowd. Perfect when you want quiet more than nightlife.

Cruise and private islands

Three and four night sailings from Florida stop at private islands like Perfect Day at CocoCay, Castaway Cay, and Disney's Lookout Cay. A wonderful first cruise for families.

When to visit The Bahamas

December to April

Dry season and peak pricing. Gorgeous weather, and worth booking early for spring break and the holidays.

May to June

Warm water, quieter beaches, and better rates. One of our favorite windows.

July to November

Hurricane season, with the lowest prices of the year. We always recommend travel insurance for these dates.

Questions we hear most

Do you need a passport for the Bahamas?

Yes for air travel. Closed loop cruises from a US port can sometimes sail with a birth certificate and photo ID, but we always recommend a passport book for everyone.

How much does a Bahamas trip cost?

A long weekend for two runs roughly $1,500 to $3,000 with flights and a nice resort, an Atlantis family week is often $4,000 to $7,000, and a three or four night cruise for a family of four can start near $1,600.

Bahamas or Caribbean?

The Bahamas for a shorter trip, a quick flight, and gorgeous water. The wider Caribbean for all inclusive value and a longer week away.

Is the Bahamas good for a first cruise?

It's the best first cruise there is. Short sailings, calm seas most of the year, and a private island day that sells the whole idea to skeptics.
